2023 TBR and What’s Next

Another year, another pile of books to read.

I’m realizing I never gave the final tally for my 2022 reading challenge. My goal last year was to read eight books. Just eight, nothing too crazy. It was a sort of transitional year for me, in terms of my job, and life in general. I was figuring out where I wanted to go with The Gachapon, what I wanted to focus on, and learning a new routine. I didn’t quite reach my reading goal, but I came so close. I read seven out of eight books, and I really enjoyed every one of them. I chose some longer books (Dune being the biggest to tackle) which took up a lot of my time. So while my TBR was on the smaller side, it still took a while to get through them all.

This year, now that I have a handle on a new routine, I’m going for a much longer list. I went through my bookshelf the other day and pulled down every single book I own that I have not read yet. Of the 113 books I own, I found 20 I haven’t read yet. Add to that one book I pre-ordered (The Adventure Zone Graphic Novel #5: The Eleventh Hour) and the book I’m currently reading (Dumb Witness by Agatha Christie), I have 22 unread books. So, that’s my goal for the year. I’m not buying anymore books until I’ve read the ones I already own. I cleared my “Want to read” list on Goodreads and all my unread books in that list and that’s how I’ll be keeping track. I’ve also piled them all separately from the rest of my books and will start replacing them on my bookshelf as I finish. If you would like to follow along on my Reading Challenge this year, feel free to follow me on Goodreads (goodreads.com/geekygachapon).

Now then, what else is in store for The Geeky Gachapon this year? Well, I’m glad you asked! I’m working on getting myself back into a good routine/schedule as far as posting goes. My goal is to post at least twice a week, maybe more depending on what’s going on in the Nerd-iverse. You’ll be seeing some classic book reviews and I’d like to start writing more film reviews and maybe even some game reviews! I would also like to bring back some classics from back in the day, like upcoming book releases each month.

I also plan on making a return to The Novel Chronicles. Once or twice a month I’ll be posting about my writing journey. I took an extended break after NaNoWriMo last year but I’m getting ready to dive back into my project and I’d love for you to tag along! I think The Novel Chronicles will start back up in February, so keep an eye out for more news about that!

Lastly, I’m trying really hard to get back into streaming at least once a week. I stopped last year for a number of reasons and slowly coming back to it. I like the idea of doing what I’ve started calling a “Sewing Circle Stream”, working on various embroidery projects and just hanging out for a few hours. I also did a few Co-Working Streams during NaNo last year and really enjoyed it. I’m still tweaking plans and figuring out how often I’ll be live, but I’ll let know when I finalize things.

I’m really excited about this year, guys. I have a lot of plans for The Gachapon and I’m looking forward to facing it all head on. Please feel free to let me know anything you would like to see here at the old Geeky Gachapon! My goal as always is for this to be a place for like-minded nerds to hang out and talk about the things that excite us! So if there’s anything you’re not seeing let me know!

Be sure to give a follow on Twitter/Instagram to keep up with when I’ll be posting and/or going live! That’s the best place to stay up to date with things. I’ll be back soon but in the meantime, Stay Nerdy!
